A few people have asked why the rewarded videos have been removed from FC Pro 2, so we decided to write a blog post explaining. There are a couple of reasons:
Firstly, and most importantly, is the user experience.
When the game was first created there were no rewarded videos in it, and the financial structures of the game were designed so that there should be just the right level of challenge in each division.
As a result, the vast majority of people who have played the game have never needed to watch the videos (or make an in-app purchase either).
But we've heard from some people recently who say their clubs can only survive financially if they watch the full 10 videos per season.
Bearing in mind you can get through a season in 15 minutes, and some of the videos last 30 seconds, that means some people are spending up to 25% of their time in the game just sitting there watching videos. That's a really bad user experience.
Instead of watching the videos, it would be much better if the users were spending that time tweaking their tactics and trying to find an in-game way to make their club profitable. That's the whole point of Football Chairman after all!
With the new app we've also added some extra finances to the game (VIP facilities, simplified food/drink/merch, Instagram bonus, season tickets etc) and extra financial help and tips to hopefully make your job of managing the bank balance easier, even without the videos.
The second issue with the videos is that they often caused technical issues - but fixing these issues was out of our control.
The adverts were served by Google directly to the user's device, and we don't have any control over that process. So if the videos don't display properly, or if loading a video causes the app to crash, we can't actually do anything about that at our end.
Understandably, those technical issues were annoying and users might leave bad reviews or contact us for technical support.
From our end it was really frustrating to be unable to help people who have had a problem with the game. But dealing with those issues also meant taking up valuable time that we could have been working on adding new features to the game itself.
So overall it seemed like the best solution was to remove the videos from the new app so that everyone could focus on the actual game instead!
