Probably the most common frustration people have when playing the game is when a player picks up an injury.
To many users, it seems like the injuries occur far too regularly and understandably this is annoying. However there are a few key reasons why the injury situation can feel worse than it actually is.
Firstly, most people skip through a season very quickly - often in around 20 minutes. Let's assume that it's fairly realistic for maybe 1/3 of your players to pick up an injury of some sort during a normal season.
So with a squad of say 30 players, that's 10 injuries per season. And if you're playing a season in just 20 minutes, that's an injury every 2 minutes of game time!
So of course that feels like injuries are happening all the time. That's what happens when you cram 12 months of "real world time" into just 20 minutes!
And that doesn't include the more common minor injuries or illnesses that might keep a player out of training for a few days, or cause a player to fail a fitness test and miss just one match here or there.
But the fast pace of the game also creates other issues.
If they've got enough spare time, an average user could get through around 10 seasons in a day. And it's not unrealistic to imagine that your club might experience some kind of "injury crisis" maybe once every 5 seasons.
So that means that twice a day you might experience a spate of injuries so bad that it causes major problems (for instance a few injuries all affecting players in one particular position).
Twice a day! That's bound to feel annoying - but in "real world" time that's really only twice a decade!
And of course those are just the average figures. Many people play the game for hundreds or even thousands of seasons, and if you play for that length of time, you're bound to experience some injury crises that are even more extreme and feel even more unrealistic. That's just the law of averages.
Lastly, there's one other key factor that influences the amount of injuries in the game - your device itself. It's your device that dictates the frequency of "random" events, like injuries, suspensions, cup shocks etc.
This blog post explains the issue in more detail: https://football-chairman.net/blog/posts/how-your-device-creates-randomness
Unfortunately certain devices do seem to have a habit of throwing up too many repeated events. It's frustrating for us as developers, because it means that code which works fine on 99.9% of devices can seem unrealistic to those few people whose devices are making things difficult.
Having said that, it should be pointed out that injuries aren't entirely random. It's worth knowing that there are a few things you can do as chairman to try and keep the number of injuries down:
1, Players who are "aggressive" are more likely to get injured (or even cause injuries to their own teammates in training!) If you sign less aggressive players, you might cut the potential for injuries.
2, Keeping the club's training facilities in a good state can help to keep players fitter and therefore keep injuries down.
3, Keeping your stadium's pitch in a good state also helps to keep injuries down.
4, And having a bigger squad with strength in depth means players might get less tired and less susceptible to injuries.
But even if you follow those tips, you will still get injuries. That's football! The key thing is to focus on your club's long-term goals and not get too frustrated by individual events like injuries.
